Junior Travel Team (Ages 8-12)

At Plumstead Baseball we provide playing opportunities to young players that show a love of the game and are motivated to play at a high level, preparing them for their career beyond Little League, whether that be Connie Mack, ITL, Middle School, American Legion or potentially even High School and beyond. When there are enough interested kids to form two teams per age group, our League will provide all the resources it can to provide those opportunities.

How to know your child is ready: Has your child played rec league and had a blast? Does your child ask to play catch in the yard a lot? Do they thrive on being challenged and respond well to adversity? Then they may be ready to try out for a team. If you are not familiar with the travel landscape, we recommend educating yourself as well. Here is a article that is a valuable guide for families considering travel baseball for their children: https://travelbaseball.org/travel-baseball-the-ultimate-resource/

***TRYOUTS ARE REQUIRED***

Commitment Levels: Some teams choose to compete in tournaments on available weekends throughout the spring and summer, while other teams play in a local travel league. The commitment levels between a youth travel baseball organization that plays in tournaments versus one that participates in a league differ significantly in terms of schedule, travel, intensity, and cost. Here’s a breakdown of the key differences:

  • Tournament Teams: Weekend tournaments are selected by head coaches. These are typically local, within an hour or two drive but occasionally include out-of-state destinations in which case, families may need to commit to traveling, possibly staying overnight in hotels and managing multiple weekend commitments throughout the season that take up most and potentially all of your Saturdays and/or Sundays.
  • Suburban Travel League(SBTL): This is a competitive travel program where games are played against other teams from Bucks and Montgomery counties.  The season runs from April until the end of June/early July, including playoffs.  Teams practice on Wednesdays and games are played on both Fridays and Sundays (this is in addition to the in-house commitment of one practice per week and games on Saturdays). Additional information can be found here:  https://www.suburbantravelbaseball.com/
  • Sunday Leagues: There are also less time consuming competitive leagues that play only on Sundays. Teams that opt for these leagues, provide ample opportunities to challenge players and develop at that higher level competition, while still enjoying the in-house programs and not risking burn out. The main difference is there are no standings or playoffs and championship like the SBTL. Often teams that compete in these leagues will also play 1-3 tournaments as time allows.
