Every year the coaches of Plumstead Baseball sign a Code of Ethics that stresses the vision of Plumstead Baseball, Sportsmanship and Participation. As parents and players we must remember that our coaches and umpires are volunteers. They are doing the best that they can to teach the players the game, rules and to act properly on and off the field. In the opinion of the Board of Directors, they are doing a great job and we, as parents need to appreciate their efforts. The Boards of Directors have created a Code of Conduct for the parents, players and spectators.
Everyone participating in Plumstead Baseball at all levels, whether as players, coaches, officials, parents or spectators, are entitled to do so in an environment of courtesy and safety. Accordingly, all spectators are asked to observe the following:
- Remember that your children play for their own fun and enjoyment, and winning in only one part of the game.
- Show appreciation and respect for your team's opponents. Without them, there would not be a game.
- Resist shouting out instructions. That is the coach's job.
- Leave the umpires out of it. They do not care who wins. Any mistakes are honest ones, and your children need to know that you believe this. Being an umpire is a difficult job, please respect this.
- Maintain self-control. Refrain from disrespectful conduct of any sort, including profanity, obscene gestures, offensive remarks, taunting or other actions that demean any individual. The Board of Directors have adopted a "ZERO TOLERANCE" stance on these points.
- Condemn the use of threat of violence in any form.
- Absolutely no use of alcoholic beverages or illegal drugs is permitted nor will it be tolerated at any game. Smoking, Vaping and smokable Marijuana are also not permitted on the premises.
Zero Tolerance Policy
"Zero Tolerance" is defined by the actions of parents, players and coaches which violate the Code of Conduct policies of Plumstead Hawks, or are deemed as inconsistent behavior according to the guidelines of participation in a community sports league program. As such, and when behavior is exhibited by a member of the Plumstead Hawks community deemed unacceptable, the activity will be elevated by Directors through Executive Committee members to the organization's Discipline Committee. (Discipline Committee comprised of senior members of the organization who will evaluate and issue a penalty against the offending party.) The Discipline Committee has complete latitude in assessing penalties against offending parties, ranging from warnings through complete removal of families from the organization, and anything in between. There are no tiers or notices of consequence, each matter is considered independently.
The Processs is as follows:
- Discipline Committee assembled and reviews the infraction.
- Committee representatives will contact umpires, opposing coaches, Plumstead representatives and/or the offending party to evaluate the situation being considered.
- The Committee will issue a ruling to the offending party.
- The offender has an opportunity to challenge the ruling, which may have an impact to either lessen or make more severe the initial ruling.
- The Committee reconvenes to decide again to issue the final ruling that will stand.
